Specifically I'm talking about a carbureted inline 4-cylinder (Honda CBR 900), but I'm sure that it would apply to other carbureted bikes as well.

On carbureted bikes, classic easy power modifications include:

  • Open up the intake path (often remove airbox, install a pod filter on each carb intake)

  • Larger Jets and modified needles, most bikes have kits available on the 'bay

  • Clean carbs! Nothing kills your power like 6 month old gas (read: Tree Sap) in your mainjet or idle circuit!

  • Good spark plugs, properly gapped. I've heard lots of good things about Iridium plugs.

Just a few, there are hundreds of modifications, but these are the "easy" ones.

Great suggestions! Cleaning the carbs and spark plugs are going at the top of my spring to-do list when I get her out of the garage. – mLewisLogic Jan 22 at 23:30
