How do I change the oil in my Suzuki C50?

I changed mine once on the ground using a shallow oil pan I found at WalMart. I also already own a Condor wheel stand to hold the bike upright. The bike should be run long enough to fully warm the oil. Have a fresh filter ready as well. The oil drain plug is located on the bottom of the engine. Loosen it a little first then get the drain pan ready. After draining the oil loosen the filter which is located at the front near the bottom of the radiator. Get the drain pan ready because oil remains in the filter. Check the filter gasket area to be sure the old gasket is not stuck there. If it stays behind oil can spray all over. Reinstall the drain plug and then add the new oil recommended for your bike. For a Suzuki it takes about 3 liters. Run the engine and check for leaks. |

Excellent. If the bike leaks oil, guess where it ends up. On the rear tire. I can tell you that is no fun. Make sure the old gasket, as above, is on the old filter, and not stuck to the engine. So be sure you have no leaks. Run it in place and check it after it is warmed up. It takes roughly 3.5 quarts. Because the clutch plates are in the oil, make sure you use oil recommended for your motorcycle. Some harleys are dry clutches, as are some Dukati's. This is very important you use the right oil. The dark stuff in the oil is mostly from the clutch, so don't freak out. Also, be sure and take some used oil and wipe it on the gasket on the new oil filter. Tighten it, but do not over tighten it. |
