I took out the oil drain bolt out of the aluminum crankcase and threads came out with it. It now will not tighten back up. There is not room to drill and re-tap without pulling the engine. Does anyone have experience with a self tapping oversized bolt to correct this problem?

I would use a product called a Helicoil:

I don't recommend using an oversized bolt!

I have found In my meger experence there are self tapping replacement oil drain plugs desighned just for that reason. you first must find an experenced parts man to establish the exact size of the original plug and then find the repair plug specific for the repair... for example if the plug is a 1/2 inch standard thread you ask for a 1/2 inch single oversise repair plug...the repair plugs are self tapping so all you have to do is carefully wrench the repair plug into the hole untill seated then remove(to wash the shavings off) the plug install the gasket and re install fill with oil and ride!!!

I agree with MidgtmnCX500, hellicoiling is defo the way to go. If you are not confident to do it yourself, a garage or specialist engineering shop would not charge much to do it.
